Heading west
June 16, 2009
washing the car for a day on the road
After a few hours, we see Stykkisholmur in the distance
After lunch and a haircut, I stop to finally take home a photo of these lupin fields that seem to cover Iceland.
In Olafsvik, we stop to buy some fiosh from a local fisherman
he is happy to filet for us
Another stop, at the peninsula's west end...thousands of (rather upset, at us stopping) birds and nests along the road.
Carrying on, this almost-only day of rain during 10 days on Iceland.
Stretching our driving legs at a south side beach
all black rock
and a roaring Atlantic
Test your strength on these rocks...
....ranging from 50lbs to over 300lbs.
Hmm....
We can climb that. Never mind the slippery rock.
David got there first
a rugged coastline appears
Perfect timing for an afternoon coffee.
We continue on to our cabins...and our nightly hot soak.
The fish is served! With potatoes from our friendly neighbors...
Dessert - Icelandic yoghurt "Skyr" accompanied by honey and hazelnuts.
The nearby glacier mountains on fire as the sun sets.
