Mt Beerwah
December 29, 2006

The Fab Four, ready to scale Mt Beerwah.
[Peter, Christine, me, Mike]

After an early morning start, we hit the trail at 7am sharp.

Quite early, we hit the sheer wall. It's steep, long, and very unforgiving.

20 meters of smooth granite...you need very good grip to not slide back down to the bottom.

The minute you make your way up there however, the view is rewarding.

Christine and Mike searching for the next foothold...

That's where we're heading....the top of the mountain looming.

As it is quite warm already, we're happy to climb in the shade.

Christine on a quick snack break at the "sand pit"...more of that later.

little yellow dashes mark the way to the top

...and it appears we all made it!

an expansive view

Quite soon though, we found ourselves surrounded...

...by millions of little flies!

Time to head back!

(one last look)

Limestone, shaped by wind and weather for millenias...

...leaving heaps of fine, white sand underneath.
[just add water, and you've got cement]

approaching the cliff face

halfway there

The last little bit...and we're done!

Another couple starting out just as we get back down....it IS this steep!
