Hallberg Rassy Boat Show
August 26, 2006

On the Swedish west coast lies the island of Orust, where local yacht manufacturers host an annual boat show.

The small town of Ellös is the home of world famous Hallberg-Rassy luxury yachts.

All their models and variants are on display.

...and many accessory suppliers show their goods, too.

This show is always packed, every year.

People come from near and far to check out their next yachting toy.

And to get a glance inside. This is a Malö yacht.
-Competition is also showing at the Hallberg-Rassy boat show.

This is a Hunter 31, an american made boat. Not that roomy, despite its size...with walls and columns everwhere. Few storage cabinets.

Another American sign - don't use good judgement, obey these rules instead!

There ius also food, beer, and live music entertainment.

Another piece of competition: the Sweden Yachts brand.
Neat lines coming down from the mast.

Inside another boat; a stylish shower stall stashed up front.

...but beware where you put your feet! I imagine it's easy to stub your toe on this door stop, especially when you're thrown around downstairs by the big seas...

Here's a door conflict - the shower door collides with the closet, making it very hard to open. You have to close away the shower door first...complicated steps to take during high seas...

And then...once you DO get the door open, don't push it open too much, or you'll break the hinges! (there's no stop behind the door)

Dangerous door knobs - you push it in to lock the door, you pop it out to open the door. Easy.
But if you forget to push that little knob in before heading out, the door may fly open, spreading your priceless china all over the floor...

This is neat though, skylight bug screen and cover. Quite handy on hot and bright summer nights.

Foldable steering wheel, to free up some cockpit space while moored.

Ok, so let's have a peek at the top of the line stuff.....!

Lots of wood, all hand-made quality.

Powered by Volvo.

The floor mats are buttoned to the floor, to prevent sliding during rough seas.

Extreme teak interior finish.

Lots of room in this 43 footer.

Here's the rear of their biggest yacht, the 54 footer.

The chief designer himself, Magnus Rassy.

The TV stows itself into the cabinet.

roomy

Looking forward, there are two more cabins, and bathrooms.

Here's the same model my dad has, the HR 31 (but much newer!)

Also quite roomy, but with very different floor plan these days.

A wide rear cabin, we don't have that.

Time for a peek inside the plant...

There must be something very interesting going on here...?

Ooo, the robotic wood cutter.

It produces all the pieces needed for the interior and exterior.

Somehoe these calendars are always found in manufacturing or repair shops...!

varnished wood drying rack

Unfinished teak...

...and now with 10 layers of varnish! Now, that's finish.

In a few months, this will become a $2,000,000 yacht.
