Gold Coast trip
December 26, 2006
by Christine

On the coldest boxing day in Queensland's history, we head down to the Gold Coast to see Australia's "Miami" and its beaches.

The Gold Coast city is about 1hr drive south of Brisbane, the coastline being just one long stretch of sandy beaches.

Canals have been dug through the city to give everyone a "waterfront property".

Having a house by the water does have its advantages though!

We thought we'd give the water a go ... but on this overcast day it seemed just a bit too cold.

Mile after mile of beach!

Q1 - the world's tallest residential building, 80 floors, 526 apartments.

In the evening, we went to see the Outback Spectacular, a show about life in the Aussie outback.

Appropriately dressed; hats and beers.

"G'day mate, can I have a schooner please."

"Yeah mate, Cascade light is the way to go around here."

The show started with the history of the Outback ...

... and continued with stockmen telling the story about today's life in the dry red land.

These guys posess some serious riding skills.

As well as serious BBQ skills!

They also demonstrated "horse whispering"; how to break in a wild horse in a less forceful way.

While we watched the show, we were served a three course meal - BBQ of course!

A bloke and his shiela :-)

The show ended with a beautiful view of the southern hemisphere's starry sky.
