Destination Yosemite
June 20, 2006

Before a brilliant view, we eat yet another "continental breakfast"...toast and tea.

Heading north on 395 beneath California's highest mountain, Mt Whitney (at some 14,000ft/4200m)

Trying the excellent food by the Mobil gas station in Lee Vining, right by gorgeous Mono Lake.

And so we head up into Yosemite...

Talk about temperature change in two days...from 126°F(53°C) in Death Valley, to close to freezing in the Sierras.

...all thanks to the difference in altitude: from -200 to +10,000 feet.

Entering the valley, we pass by Yosemite Falls.

Another pretty stop, right by the river.

Bridal Veil Fall

majestic El Cap

Christine, enjoying the scenery...

Half Dome by sunset...another perfectly timed sunset! We'll hike it tomorrow.

reflecting pond

No available camp sites in the valley, we head down hwy 140 and find some spots on BLM land.

cleaning ourselves up by the river
