The Big Game!
November 19, 2005

The Golden Bears from Cal take on Stanford, so we leave Bear Territory (or do we?) and head for The Big Game in Palo Alto.

At the home of Pat and Doug, we team up with fellow Cal supporters and throw a pre-game party.
-Are those red shirts in the back??

Monte sports his flashy blue and gold cap...a bright idea!

It's a short walk from the party to the stadium....or a long drive, for those who prefer that!

Yep, the colors of Sweden are just that...blue and gold!
Anyway, here we are...in the land of the free - and the home of The Bears!

Alright, get in line, folks.

Watch out for them red shirts.

The Axe, currently in the hands of Berkeley, is being paraded up and down the stadium.

Cal's well-organized band is swinging away during their pre-show

their mascot - a Palo Altan tree

Spy vs. Spy

Santas....?

So it appears.

Cardinals surrounded by the Cal band....pretty much setting the tone for the evening!

A fuzzy shot of our mascot...a bear!

Some Stanfurders got their hands on a poor bear....

Here comes our heroes! (167 kB movie file)

Meanwhile. the Cardinal...Indians...dance away in the remains of a stuffed bear.

Sure, there were a few red supporters...

...but there are masses of Blue and Gold.

Here we go!

Cal quickly get their first touchdown.

check it out!

In fact, as things started to get rough...and the Golden Bears kept scoring...

...the red shirts vanished.
Probably about bedtime for them.

Their spirit left in the dust.

As the mauling is near the end, little police cars are crowding beneath the Blue and Gold section, fearing an invasion just like previous years.

But..nothing can stop our Bears.
Stanford got creamed 27-3, and this is now officially Bear Territory! (719 kB movie file)

Just one week later, the 84 year old Stanford Stadium was torn down!
With 85,000 seats, it was the biggest of this kind in the country.
90 million dollars will soon bring a new stadium...
