Puncturevine
July 6, 2005

The very appropriate name for these bike tire enemies is
Puncturevine or Goathead (Tribulus terrestris)

Texas A&M University has more detail on this thorny horror; http://texnat.tamu.edu/cmplants/toxic/plants/goathead.html
They have also published a PDF about it.

This poisonous ground cover that is mostly seen along roads and trails.

Their seeds are embedded in thorns, and when they dry and fall off, they will always have at least one thorn pointing right up...bikers, beware!

They're also not easy to spot on the ground.

I probably owe 50 flats to these guys...
