Off-road to Stinson Beach
November 5, 2005

Many good days have started right here, at the Rockridge BART station.

Coit Tower over Embarcadero

the Pier 39 Christmas tree is being decorated

tourists watching the sea lions

a very nice day, indeed

a folkbåt (old Swedish design) race beneath the Golden Gate

Crissy Fields

from Rodeo Beach, following the Old Bunker Trail up the hill and north along the coast

Hmm...the road ends here...?

last glimpse of Rodeo Beach before continuing towards Tennessee Valley

warning: rough road ahead

At the mouth of Tennessee Valley.
In lack of a good way down, I just scrambled down the steep, bushy hill.
I'll keep an eye out for a better alternative next time.

The Coastal Trail runs from Tennessee Valley to Muir Beach.

Muir Beach!

An small dirt road leads from the beach up to hwy 1.

Somewhere, up there, is Stinson Beach. I wonder if there's food...

Oh, a mirage! A fruit stand next to the road.

Yep. Quite needed, that.
-Next time I'll make sure to bring some water and choclate bars.

Hwy 1 to Stinson Beach - here I come!

In good time for a quiet sunset in the pacific.
26 miles so far, in 5 hours. Including lots of bushwhacking and photo stops.

[a moment to remember]

The sun sets behind me as I head up the hill towards the Pan Toll.

Gosh, it's only 5:30, and pitch dark already! Good thing I brought those lights.

riding at night gives you a different perspective on things

30 minutes from Stinson Beach to Pan Toll. Now it's all downhill to Sausalito!

The moon's up...trying to get a shot.
Oops, wasn't looking...

Too low...

Too high...

Ah, here we go. One happy camper.

Enjoying a break in the warm airs of Sausalito.

Enjoying the big city skyline.

A glimpse of the Gate at night.
The gate, by the way, which is closed after dark! You need to open gates and stuff to get across.

These phones are here for a reason...

55 miles roundtrip. In ten hours, including lots of stops along the way.
