Maui, day 3 - The Road to Hana
January 10, 2003
Another beautiful day is dawning
Today: The Road to Hana
The scenery along the way is spectacular, and our guide book helps us get the most out of it.
Arachnofobia?
bamboo forest
Plenty of waterfalls find their way down Haleakala
back to our roots
the northern part of Maui is really covered with jungle
The waves are crashing the shore
(movie file)
picnic lunch, halfway to Hana
...but watch out for falling objects!
Christof is up to something...
...wet!
soaked
(movie file)
Schwedisch für Anfänger
(a moose showing a condom in class)
"Long sock for Pippi"
(Pippi = Mr. Johnson)
wild passion fruit
a helicopter zooms by
Next stop: The Red Beach, right before Hana
a well protected beach of red sand
It proved to be a nude beach - good, since I forgot my trunks anyway.
only accessible via a path along the cliff
the end of a tunnel
(movie file)
Stopping in Hana for lunch at Tutu's
Next up: The White Beach for some body surfing.
After that, the road narrows for the remaining 30 miles...
A dirt road with blind corners...
...bumps...
...crests...
...cliffs...
...bridges...
...vistas...
...and other trafficants.
the road hugs the water front
Some parts are...well...paved.
others are very smooth
Stopping to enjoy the sunset.
And to eat chocolate chip cookies.
Later, we enjoyed tasty Italian at Casanova's in Makawao.
